New Student Orientation and Assessment to enroll in classes
Monday mornings 8:00 a.m. and Monday evenings 6:00 p.m., no appointment necessary. Click here for location information for New Student Orientation.
First, you take a Tennessee Basic Education (TABE) test so we can know where you should begin at OIC. Second, you will meet with our employment career specialist to determine your path through OIC’s classes and programs. Then you’re ready to begin! There is no waiting list. Everyone is accepted into OIC’s programs.
All classes are free of charge and bus passes are provided for students actively enrolled in classes.
Classes are held Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Nashville OIC, 1819 Charlotte Avenue, and Monday-Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Park Avenue Community Career Center, 3703 Park Avenue (entrance off Elkins Avenue.)
GED Preparation can lead to a GED. OIC offers both classroom and computer assisted learning, and tutoring is available. Every grade level advance in the GED preparation class is important in getting a job and building a career. You can move at your own pace and see how fast you are progressing with monthly evaluations.
Free GED testing. Once you have passed the GED practice test, we pay for you to take the state administered GED test for free. Nashville OIC pays the testing fee.
Classes are held Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 Noon at Nashville OIC, 1819 Charlotte Avenue.
Computer Training leads to computer literacy. You will learn how to use the internet, acquire an email address, and study Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access. Skills in these programs can help you land the job that you’ve always wanted.
Services are scheduled Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Nashville OIC, 1819 Charlotte Avenue.
You may need a job now. After completing Assessment, you can move directly to Job Placement. You prepare your resume and seek a job with support of the employment career specialist, who gets to know you to understand your qualifications and help you find the job that fits you. We recommend that you take advantage of GED Preparation and Computer Training classes while you look for a job.

Generous donors make the OIC experience possible and free to students. All costs of education, training and job placement services are covered, including GED practice tests and the state GED examination. Bus passes are provided for actively enrolled students.
